When Cleaning Is Warranted — and When It Is Not
We will tell you honestly. The EPA’s position is that routine duct cleaning in an uncontaminated system has not been shown to prevent health problems, and a vendor who quotes a whole-community duct clean without inspecting first is selling you something you may not need.
Cleaning is warranted where there is visible mould growth inside hard-surface ductwork or on HVAC components, vermin infestation, substantial deposits of dust and debris, or post-renovation and post-construction contamination. In Washington, damp climate makes lint compaction rapid; moss and debris common at exterior terminations — which affects how quickly systems load and where microbial growth appears.

Duct Material Determines Method
Sheet metal takes a rotary brush. Flexible duct does not — brushing tears the inner liner. Duct board cannot be brushed aggressively without releasing fibreglass into the airstream. A vendor arriving with one tool for all three will damage your system. We identify duct material before quoting.
